Following our work with the Genes & Health team at Queen Mary’s University London, we’re delighted to have been asked to support a major new research study led by Dr Veline L'Esperance and Professor Sarah Finer, with Professor Ines Barroso and Dr Trevelyan McKinley from the University of Exeter.
The study is funded by the Wellcome trust and aims to understand the impact of genetics, age and ethnicity on diabetes within British African and Caribbean communities. Using a single HbA1c level to diagnose different ethnic groups might lead to mistakes, with some told they have diabetes when they don’t, and others not being diagnosed when they actually have it. These errors are more common in older people and ethnic minorities in the UK, which could make health inequalities worse.
“Working with Design Science was an absolute pleasure. They are exceptionally talented, innovative and collaborative. Thank you for bringing our vision to life.”
To support the project we will be co-designing a study identity as well as designing, developing and maintaining a new study website and print material to support participation and engagement across often excluded groups.
Do get in touch if you’d like to bring knowledge to life on complex health, science or education challenges.
