The Linnean Society Christmas Lecture by Anne Odling-Smee
12 December 2011
Anne Odling-Smee, Design Science Director, addressed a predominantly science and especially biology-related audience at the Linnean Society’s 2011 Christmas lecture with her talk, How can design help communicate science?
The impassioned response from an audience with little or no prior knowledge about design, reinforced our theory that collaborations between designers and scientists should be encouraged.
Comments and questions ranged from a biology grammar school teacher asking how Design Science could intervene to help address the serious problem of the ‘dumbing-down’ of science in education, to a reminder that scientists speaking first hand about their subject will often be the best communicators of all, so how could Design Science help broaden this channel.
